As every horse lover knows only too well, at some stage in our lives we will form a bond with
one extra special horse that will stand out above all the rest who may come and go in our lives.
One such horse was a liver chestnut QH gelding, known as Skeeta.
Skeeta was Alisons mate, they met when Skeeta was a weanling and had been inseperable ever since.
Alison broke Skeet in and did all of his training..
He had a heart the size of the Grand canyon, no matter what was asked of him, he obliged.
Alison would jump on him bareback & bridless, gallop across a paddock, slide to a stop,
spin him around and gallop back. She would then ask him to collect and ride at a controlled
pace before sidling up to a gate to open it, jump over a log, cut a cow, take a swim in the surf
or just take a long leisurly walk.
When it came to a bond, Skeeta and Alison shared one of those unbreakable ones.
Sadly Skeeta lost a long battle with laminitis and was laid to rest in pride of place at
Kalongri Stud in the Hunter Valley today.
Skeeta's laminitis was abit of a mystery. Alison runs a tight ship with all farrier visit, vacc's and worming
routines running like clockwork. Vet visits to the stud are frequent, especially during the breeding season.
Considering Skeeta was in the paddock we regularly refer to as 'The Jenny Craig' paddock, Alison nor her
Vet ever suspected that laminitis would affect him.
Skeeta now walks with the angels.
VALE SKEET
