Vale Morn Deck Q-2160
Article By Kylie R. Melrose.
Santa Rio Quarter Horse Studs Magnificent Morn Deck Q-2160 was laid to
rest on the 25th of August, 2009, at Morn Deck Lodge in Parkes, NSW.
The Australian Quarter Horse Legend was a very large part of the Usher
family for 33 years.
Morn Deck was foaled in Walgett, NSW at Robert Baldwin's Quarter Horse
Stud "Euroka" on the 7th of October, 1976. Morn Deck is a son of the
super imported stallion Lion Deck Q-880 who had won over $US 34,500.00
in AAA Stakes races in the USA. The superior racehorse was by Jet Deck,
a world champion race horse and multiple AAAT sire.
Lion Deck was out of Miss Ettale, an AQHA and NCHA champion. A dam of
race winners and multiple ROM producer.
Morn Deck was out of the imported cutting mare Doc's Misty Morn Q-594,
a daughter of Jandon (a granddaughter of Man O War) and the world
famous chestnut stallion Doc Bar who revolutionized the cutting horse
industry. Doc Bar's sire Lightning Bar was an AAA AQHA champion son of
Three Bars. His dam Dandy Doll an AA mare by Texas Dandy x Bar Maid F.
In 1977 at four and a half months of age Morn Deck was purchased by
Mathea Usher and her late husband Brian of Santa Rio Quarter Horse Stud
of Tullamore, NSW.
With his unbeatable conformation, temperament, movement, pedigree and
his 'wow' factor look at me presence, Morn Deck in 1979, at the
Australian Quarter Horse Championships won his Two Year Old Colt Halter
Class, Grand Champion Stallion or Colt title, prior to winning the
Supreme Champion Exhibit at Halter.
Morn Deck was exhibited at the Championships by Alan Larkin. Following
the presentation of the Supreme Champion Exhibit, judge Mr Larry
Myerscough commented, "He's a super little horse!"
In 1980 Morn Deck achieved an Australian first at the Australian
Quarter Horse Championships by winning the Supreme National Champion
Exhibit at Halter award for the second year in succession.
Earlier on, Morn Deck who was handled by Phil Webb, was named the
Champion Colt 3 Year Old and the Champion Stallion or Colt, before
being named the Supreme Champion Exhibit at Halter.
Morn Deck was originally placed third in the line-up in his 3 year old
colt class by judge Mr Roger Reutenik who then placed Morn Deck in the
winners position to take the title. This was not the only moment that
had everyone on the edge of their seats, waiting for the result, as the
Supreme Champion Exhibit title came down to two outstanding horses Morn
Deck and the Champion Mare Win O Peg (imp), owned by John and Donna
Hofmann. The judges Mr Reutenik and Mr Sparks Rust Jnr announced Morn
Deck as the Supreme Champion Exhibit at Halter with an incredibly loud
cheer from an excited crowd.
In 1981 he was sashed as the Champion Stallion, and was also judged as
the Supreme Exhibit of the Victorian State Championships.
Morn Deck holds AQHA Awards for Hunter Under Saddle - Register of
Merit, Halter - ROM, Superior Horse, and Achievement, Performance -
ROM, and Quarter Horse Champion, Western Pleasure - ROM, and a ROM in
Bridal Path Hack.
In 1999 Santa Rio Quarter Horse Stud's magnificent sire Morn Deck was
inducted into the Australian Quarter Horse Association Hall Of Fame in
honor of his outstanding achievements and contribution to the Quarter
Horse breed.
For Mathea owning and showing Morn Deck has been a wonderful
experience, "It has been exciting, back in those days when we showed
him was the biggest buzz that you could get." Mathea is continuing on
Morn Deck's incredible pedigree through his beautiful daughters and
granddaughters that she is breeding to both of her junior sires Flashy
Pepto and Traditional Spinner.
