2011 -  Show Program has been loaded on our COMING EVENTS page.

Hot Weather Policy
Where the temperature at Port Augusta is predicted to be 38 degrees or higher for the day of the show on Weatherzone (www.weatherzone.com.au) the day prior to the show, then the show will be cancelled by 10am on the day prior. Eg If on Saturday the predicted temperature is 39 degrees for Sunday then the show will be cancelled 10 am on Saturday. Twilight shows – if the temperature is predicted to be 40 degrees or higher then the show will be cancelled. If the temperature is in the high 30’s the start will be delayed and will start with halter classes. We will decide by consensus on the day when the novelties will be run possibly after halter. Cathy will email confirmation of cancellation the night before. People can ring Emily Byerlee or Cathy Bornholm for confirmation of cancellation.
Reminder – If you intend to compete in registered halter classes you need to have lodged a copy of your horses papers with the secretary Cathy Bornholm before you can compete in these classes. She still has the copies of horses’ papers lodged last year. You can email copies to her but they need to be sent by the Thursday night before the show. Copies of Amateur Owner Cards also need to be lodged with the secretary
Ribbons – Once you have 25 ribbons of one colour you can trade them in for a large 25 Register of Merit (ROM) ribbon. You don’t have to wait till you have 25 ribbons, you can hand them in at each show and enter the number of ribbons handed in, in the RIBBON BOOK. Then when you get to 25 you can collect your ROM. This is a great fundraiser for the club requiring little work on members behalf and helps keep the costs down. Check out those cupboards at home and bring along your ribbons to the next show. White, yellow, brown and pink ribbons all count towards a white 25 ROM If you collect 4 ROMs of one colour you can then trade them in for a Century ribbon

About our Club

In 1992 The Lazy W Western Riding Club was founded by Meredith Rehn and Annie Gilbert and interested people in Wilmington and surrounding areas.  Meredith already being a keen Western Rider and Annie having a keen interest to learn, Annie previously involved in Hacking.  The Aim of this new Club being to promote Western Riding (which includes some English Classes) and of course the Wonderful Western Breeds of Horse, from Novice up to Advanced and open to all/other Breeds, for like minded people to enjoy their horses in a safe environment and improve their horsemanship skills.

Today the Club is still based at the Wilmington Rodeo Grounds, Main Road, Wilmington, South Australia and the Aim is the same,   Our Show season usually starts in September on the Fourth Sunday of the month unless otherwise specified, with a break over the wet winter months.  We hold Clinics and Training days as well as Shows.

The wonderful thing about Western Show is that there are events that cater for all horses from Weanlings upwards, handlers from tiny tots to people in their seventies whether you wish to ride or not, there are classes which will suit you.  All Novice Events are open to people with any approved riding gear e.g.; not restricted to Western saddle, gear, apparel etc., so do come along and have a try; you will be made most welcome.  Our Shows have events such as Halter, Showmanship at Halter (handler Judged), Hunter In Hand, Yearling Trail (Led Obstacle), Yearling Lunge Line,  Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation (Ridden Pattern Event), Trail (Obstacles), Western Pleasure, Western Riding, Reining, and also Novelties such as;  Barrel Race, Keyhole and Bending.  We hold Led Line Events for children 8 years and under as well as children 9 years and over or maybe the not so confident.

Our Club Members, some of which have gone on to show at State, Interstate and National Level and so can boast both National and State Championship winners and place getters.  We have canteen facilities, camping, and showers available on ground, yards are available.  Wilmington Hotel in walking distance, so come along, watch or join in, we are a friendly bunch and have a lot of fun together with our horses.  Please go to the Contact page for contact details, you can arrange to be on our mailing list
