DOG ATTACK ON BGW YEARLINGS

August 13, 2010

We received this very distressing email from one of our members today, please read below:

We thought these photo's might be of interest to you. Last tuesday night we had dogs chase and attack our yearling herd. We have one filly with bite marks around both back fetlocks, and 4 others torn and damaged, from crashing through fences in panic at the attack.
One of the yearlings is so traumatised that he is afraid of us even touching him, these yearlings were all cuddly and friendly, and safe to be handled by children, as you have seen in previous photos we had sent.
The damage done to my babies has been most distressing, I am only now just starting to think straight.
Also had a filly damaged last month in the same paddock, we initially thought it was just a freak paddock accident, although we are now wondering if this may not have been the first attack by these dogs and now they have come back a second time.
A neighbour to our property has also lost several sheep from dog attacks over the past 6 weeks, some dogs have been destroyed although the attacks seem to keep on happening.

IF you too have had experience with attacks by feral dogs, contact your local council, form a support group, go to your local news paper or TV/ radio station, make posters out of photo's, similar to those above, of animals in your area that have been the victim of one of these attacks and plaster them around town. Make people aware, make a lot of noise about your concerns and complaints. REMEBER - the council representatives are elected to their positions and if they don't take action and enough people are motivated to care, they can be replaced by someone who will take action.
